KNOWING GOD IN 2019
Who God is, who we are and how He relates to us is an important topic. Should we use a lens to see and know Him that is not actually Him, we will have made for ourselves a *false christ.*
God can be seen accurately through Himself, which is to say that we know God, the Plan and ourselves through the person of Jesus. Of course Jesus is who He is and the I AM of Himself. So we are no more entitled to private christ’s than we are to private gospels of the kind Paul calls ‘*Other Gospel’s*.’
The problem of a false christ and a false gospel is that it makes a false us.’ So we must take care to possess the Christ of God, the Gospel of the Kingdom and to righty interpret the word of truth (the Bible). Thomas Torrance writes,
“In faith we have to do with a way of apprehending God which does not confine him to the narrow limits of what we can conceive or express, but is constantly being expanded under the power of God to make himself known. By its very nature, therefore, faith in God is characterised by a kind of ‘infinity’, for while God as a ‘whole’ eludes our comprehension, what he does allow us to apprehend of himself is inseparable from what he is as a ‘whole’ so that it breaks through the narrow confines of our grasp.” (1)
The law is a narrow limit and will not deliver a real God or a God of love. Fundamentalism - a culture to the letter is similarly limited because God is known directly through His being and not contained in words and definitions.
The meaning of persons is always found in persons and not in words. The word of God, the logos , is not an essay but the person of Jesus. When Christ is our life we too become a LIVING WORD. This is the difference between ministry in spirit and life and ministry that is no more than ministry.
