Christ in you - His Kingdom in the world

There’s a principle of the Kingdom that distinguishes it from mere religion. It’s life that is in Jesus and flows from Jesus.

‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made’ John 1.1-5 NIV. Spirit and life is Jesus and comes from Jesus. This is what we impart when Jesus is our life. Nothing has life that is not the outflowing of Christ’s life in us.

Spirit and life is the essence of the Kingdom. ‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV. When Jesus is our life we are life and spirit and it flows from us into everything we do. How do we be this life? We say, “Jesus. Be my life.”

‘When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory’
Col 3.4 NIV. This for now. It is the spirit of Christ manifesting through you so that you multiply His life as the person He created you to be. Gone are the days of dead works and misguided ventures. You progressively become more fruitful and you bless others by ceasing, Martha like, to badger people into doing what Jesus means for you to be doing. Your glory is revealed as your ministry flows from being who you are in Jesus.

If random acts of religion can never reveal the Kingdom of God neither can the most carefully prepared speech reveal the life of the Spirit - unless the one delivering it is living in the Spirit. To be in the spirit is to be in union with God
by the One Spirit because Christ is our life. Here we have abandoned the dualism between what is and what can be and we so simply are. We are the sons of God alive in the son.

‘But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NASB

A Spirit filled teaching is more than anointed. It is life that flows through the teacher from God. Things may be revealed that go beyond the teacher’s understanding. The content of the talk will be far larger than the talk itself because it was bathed in the infinite. In the letter, one can teach with references, citations and all kinds of analogies. But its content is much less than the words in which it came. It shrinks your being.

Anything seeded by revelation will be better than a harvest of theology. Any theology that is life-giving will have emerged from revelation. The revelation of Jesus into your spirit and soul. Truth on its own cannot produce spirit. But the spirit of Christ will grow spirit and truth.

‘And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth’ 1 John 5.6 NIV.

In the Kingdom of God, truth is never an independent entity. It exists in the Spirit of God and is defined by God. Truth is Christ and the expression of Christ as the living word. Truth is Christ made manifest in the flesh – Christ in us. Truth can only be known by living in God. It can never arise from rootedness in the law or the polemics of the knowledge of good and evil.

Truth is known when we live in the spirit - spirit being the Spirit of Christ. Here truth is a person, a state of being and a state of knowing. This ‘knowing’ is not ‘knowing’ as in assenting to a proposition. It is ‘knowing’ as in being one with God and filled with revelation. This is why truth is a person; why Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

We can cannot live the truth by wearing a burqa or by keeping Sabbaths. Truth is not information, knowledge or behaviour. It is not things we wear, days we observe or "getting it right." It is not ‘a balanced view,’ not practical ‘know-how’ or academic precision. It’s not even missionary work. Truth is. Truth is the state of
being in God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Truth is Christ manifest as you. Truth is you as a son of God being who He wants you to be and doing what He intends for you to do.

Let’s be clear. In Him, that is in God, you will know truth and the truth will set you free. This truth, the person of Jesus, will give you eyes that see and ears that hear. You will be living in the light of the world, the light that is life and the life in which the entire world holds together. In this light you are one with Father and you do what He intends for you to do as a son alive and informed in the spirit of sonship. The paradox of Jesus is that in being filled entirely with Jesus you are so the man and the woman Father made you to be.

‘And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself’ Eph 4.10 NLT.

If the world holds together in Jesus, so do you. All that exists finds its form and function in Jesus in the Spirit. Yet the Spirit is not simply a neutral force. It is the person of God and by definition the love of God. God is love and Spirit is love. When we live in the Spirit of Christ we live in this love and begin to multiply the new creation. As more and more people make Christ their life rather than materialism or religion their life, the kingdom of God begins to grow. Did you know that its possible for us to work industriously in religion all our lives and fail to advance the Kingdom of God not at all?

Positioned in the flesh, the law or the letter, we will never express the Kingdom of God. The flesh accomplishes nothing. In this mode our sermons can never be more than delivered essays and our plans and programs shells without an inner life. Church growth that is the mere planting of structures and method will be healthy tares but not sons of God. Sons of God grow out of union with Father – a relationship that is already ours and which we must not let Satan deter us from living in.

The Kingdom of God is the extension of God’s love-nature into the creation through people like you. It is His life as the creation. Thus He really is the Vine and we are the branches. In Him society becomes the fruit of His life. This is the whole world increasingly declaring His glory.
